The Great Hope

The start of football season is always a wonderful time. There is hope that the Purple will rise again. There is talk that they'll be better than last year. Some even think they might get off to a 4-0 start before the bye.

Woof woof.

Okay, a little reality. I have been bleeding purple longer than I care to admit. We start the season with a QB that has yet to toss a TD, and a defense that might be truly scary.

The problem is - no one knows what this team will do. I have heard everything from 2-14 to 10-6.

All right, 2-14 is unlikely, and 10-6 suggests you failed your last drug screening. Personally, I can't decide whether this season's team is a 5-11 or 6-10 team. Without a credible passing attack, the running attack will suffer. Unless the defense scores 3 tds per game, we're in big trouble. If we have to rely on the offense to pull the load, then I think we're in for a whole lot of hurt.

Drinking the Kool Aid

It is that euphoric time of year - training camp! A time of hope when reality is ignored, and we in Viking land are lulled into a sense of false hope.
This could be the year!
Helllllooooo - is anybody in there?
Let's see, we have an unproven receiver core, a second year quarterback, a porous secondary, and Mister Personality for a coach.
This team went six and ten last year. It sported an unimaginative offense. They were painful to watch.
Reality will soon intrude, once we start playing real games. Oh we might get off to a fast start like last year, but we'll fade to another miserable season - somewhere between 5-11 to 7-9. Maybe next year we'll get a real coach.
